A Favorite of The Sober Curator and Happy Every Hour, Bravus Brewing Serves Up Tasty Peanut Butter Treats

A favorite of the Sober Curator and Happy Every Hour, Bravus Brewing from California joins us again for a tasty treat that will tantalize your taste buds. So buckle up and lean in hard on those winter chills, because Bravus Brewing is bringing us a stout, no doubt!

This week we are drinking a peanut butter stout from Bravus Brewing. Not only that, but we are also taking an older version of their same peanut butter stout (now called Peanut Butter Dark) and comparing the two. It’s everything you want in a beer review except for nudity, but if you watch the video, there is some nipple play.

How Does It Pour?

At the first crack, these beers seem somewhat similar. Bravus Brewing does an excellent job of making sure their stouts pour with a perfect dark brown color that fills the glass and creates a caramelly head on top. However, you will notice that the head on the most recent version of this brew has a creamier texture and color to it.

The aromas coming off each of the glasses prepare you for what you are about to drink since Bravus Brewing packed in the peanuts like Jerry Seinfeld packs in the observational humor. The perfect colored pour and the peanutty aroma are where these similarities start to fade as you bring each glass to your mouth.

How Does It Taste?

At first, I could taste the difference between their old recipe and their newer ones. When Bravus Brewing made their original Peanut Butter Stout, a beer I buy a case of every time it’s released, the peanut flavor was subtle, but also obvious at the same time. It was not hitting you over the head, but it wasn’t sneaking in the back door either.

The newer recipe has a much more forward peanut butter taste and even adds a hint of sweetness; the kind you get from a Jif peanut butter instead of the Whole Foods brand. Bravus Brewing changed it up and I couldn’t put my finger on the difference until I consulted the ingredients label (which most beer does not have, who knew?)

I noticed that in the older version, Bravus Brewing used the actual peanuts and hazelnuts, while in the newer one, they used an extract. I’m no food scientist (which means this is all strictly talking out of my ass), but I think that’s where the more pure sweet peanut butter taste comes from in the newer version, as opposed to the older one.

At the end of the day, I don’t give a crap. Peanut Butter Dark is still my favorite beer from Bravus Brewing and I will continue to order too many all of the time. Untappd gives this tasty treat a 3.4 out of 5, but I give it 4.5 trampolines on a 9 to 5 scale. Eat it. As always, though, judge for yourself! Head over to Bravus.com and grab yourself some and save 10% on your order, too! Go nuts! Go PEAnuts!
