The Daily Llama’s Weekly Word of the Day and Meditations

The Daily Llama, by Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, July 10th – Friday, July 14th, 2023.

MONDAY, JULY 10TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: SIMPLICITY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Life is complicated enough on its own, and anything we can do to simplify our life can only support our well-being. Studies show that decluttering our physical space can reduce stress and anxiety, and minimizing what we own can reduce decision fatigue and reclaim the time, money, and energy it takes to manage our possessions.

Sometimes it’s not our stuff that’s complicating our lives, though. It may be our jobs or having too many commitments, and it may be the way we think about things or how we manage our relationships.

Where can you work on creating more simplicity in your life?

TUESDAY, JULY 11TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAILY: LESS

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Cultivating contentment with what we have and who we are may take a while. We may first have to struggle to get our basic needs met. We may spend some time figuring out what’s important to us and what’s not.

Like a beautiful sculpture, the beauty is in what remains, not what is taken away.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: INTEGRITY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Integrity is matching our behaviors with what we believe, think, feel and speak. Sometimes it takes a while to figure those things out. We may be tempted to feel it is too late to have integrity because we have made many mistakes. Having integrity is not about being perfect or never making mistakes.

We begin to create integrity when we start practicing honesty about who we are.

We nurture integrity when we start loving and accepting who we are.

We live with integrity when we start being who we are meant to be.

THURSDAY, JULY 13TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: PLAIN

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

People will begin to trust us again when we learn to speak the plain truth about our story of addiction and recovery and let go of the embellishments, the half-truths, and the gory details meant to shock and awe. That is not to say we cannot be funny or use dramatic emphasis, which are natural parts of storytelling. But it is the naked and plain truth that captivates and inspires us. People crave authenticity and genuineness; it is the food for authentic connection.

And without human connection, we die.

FRIDAY, JULY 14TH

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY: SELF-CONTROL

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

MEDITATE ON THIS:

In the Serenity Prayer, we petition for the courage to change the things we can. What are those things? It’s a short list.

We can change the way we think, we can change the way we feel, we can change our belief systems (beliefs are different than thoughts), and we can change the way we behave.

That’s about it. And it takes courage to change those things. But it’s also the only way we will know peace.
