Sober Word Of The Day + Quote + Reflection From The Daily Llama For The Week Of March 7th

The Daily Llama, by Sober Curator Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, March 7th – Friday, March 11th, 2022.

WORD OF THE DAY: OUTRAGEOUS

MONDAY, MARCH 7, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Don’t be outraged. Be outrageous.” -Tom Robbins

Meditate On This:

Outrageous has distinctly different meanings based on the context in which it is used. On one hand, it can mean “grossly offensive,” “intolerable, shocking,” or “violent or unrestrained.” Yet it can also mean “extravagant, remarkable, unconventional.” It is this latter meaning that is the focus of today’s meditation. For while there is much in the world right now to cause us much anger, grief and outrage, more than ever the world needs us to be outrageous with our love, our kindness, our compassion, our integrity, and our ability to stand up for what is right.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day, Cyprus Green Monday, National Be Heard Day, National Cereal Day, National Flapjack Day, National Heroes and Benefactors Day, Sock Monkey Day, Plant Power Day, and National Crown Roast of Pork Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: PRIORITIZE

TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” – Stephen Covey

MEDITATE ON THIS:

The hardest boundaries to set are the boundaries we set with ourselves around our time. It is incredibly easy to give away our time to people, places or things that are not our top priorities. Today we focus on creating change in protecting our time and our energy for our top priorities. This is not to say we should focus on being busy, or view giving our time away to lower priorities as a waste. When we make a choice to use our time in a certain way, it is an opportunity to learn about ourselves:  what triggers us to avoid and what motivates us to act.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Organize Your Home Office Day, National Proofreading Day, National Peanut Cluster Day, National Oregon Day, Commonwealth Day, Be Nasty Day, and International Women’s Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: QUESTION

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“The only questions that really matter are the ones you ask yourself.” -Ursula K. Le Guin

MEDITATE ON THIS:

When we practice questioning ourselves effectively, we develop our capacity for introspection. But we must also learn to answer those questions in a non-judgmental manner. We make observations, not evaluations. Looking at ourselves in a critical or punishing way does not actually help us change. To make flowers bloom brightly, we must give it lots of light, water, and love, and only a little bit of shit. Not the other way around. Practicing and deepening our capacity for compassionate introspection helps us to become emotionally unstuck and less mentally constipated.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Barbie Day, National Get Over It Day, National No Smoking Day, National Meatball Day, National False Teeth Day, National Crab Meat Day, and Amerigo Vespucci Day.

WORD OF THE DAY: RESTORE

THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. It allows others to be responsible for themselves and for us to take our hands off situations that do not belong to us. This frees us from unnecessary stress.”  – Melody Beattie

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Today we practice giving ourselves the grace to let go so that we may help restore ourselves to sanity. Today we practice surrendering anything that does not belong to us or no longer serves us. Today we seek to enjoy the emptiness we need so that we can experience the fullness of life. Today we create stillness within so that our most authentic voice can be heard.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Harriet Tubman Day, World Kidney Day, Popcorn Lover’s Day, Paper Money Day, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, National Pack Your Lunch Day, National Ranch Day, National Landline Telephone Day, National Blueberry Popover Day, Nametag Day, Mario Day, International Bagpipe Day, Histotechnology Professionals Day, and International Day of Awesomeness.

WORD OF THE DAY: SIMPLIFY

FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2022

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Everyone has complicated lives, but the more you can simplify it and make it work for you, the better it is going to be.” -Lewis Hamilton

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Often when we choose the easier way in the present moment, we are choosing the harder way in the future. Today we focus on learning how to love and care for our future selves more effectively. Sometimes that means doing the hard thing now so it isn’t worse later. And sometimes it just means we stop beating up on our past selves. Keep it simple. Keep your focus on what you can control right now at this moment.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day, Worship of Tools Day, World Plumbing Day, National Promposal Day, National No-Code Day, Middle Name Pride Day, 311 Day, and National Funeral Director and Mortician Appreciation Day.
