SOBER POP Playback Podcast: Non-Alcoholic Brands Including The Dry Good Company, Free Spirits Alcohol Alternatives, SOVI, & For Bitter For Worse

For National Recovery Month in September 2021, we explored an incredible new online bottle shop called The Dry Good Beverage Company and some of their select high-end product vendors. These include Free Spirits Whiskey, Gin, and Tequila Alternatives, For Bitter For Worse, and Sovi, a sparkling rosé wine alternative.

About The Dry Good Beverage Co.

Jake and Adrienne are the co-founders of The Dry Goods Beverage Co. They created this space because they believe that whether you’re having alcohol or not, everyone deserves a good drink. Can we get an AMEN?!?!?

As a 2nd generation vintner in Napa Valley (Jake) and published cocktail writer (Adrienne), this team really enjoys a well-crafted wine, spirit, or cocktail. But, like many of you, they found themselves wanting to cut back on alcohol for a variety of health and lifestyle reasons. Frustrated by the lack of options beyond high-sugar soda, fruit juice, and club soda, they began looking for more interesting, sophisticated products designed for grown-ups.

Grown-Up Drinks Sans Alcohol? Tell me more!

It seems they chose an opportune time to begin their search because over the past year we’ve seen an enormous rise in new non-alcoholic spirits, wine, beer, and cocktail alternatives. As a result, you can now cut back on booze without sacrificing flavor or experience. You too can have a fun at-home bar cart and mix up delicious cocktails. It has truly never been a better time to go alcohol-free – whether that’s for one drink, on weekdays, this month, or forever.

In addition to the products themselves, Free Spirits aims to make this space accessible and fun. That means that alongside their online store, they are committed to offering an extensive library of cocktail recipes, spirits guides, and other content designed to help you discover your next favorite drink.

Free Spirits

WE’VE ALWAYS LOVED HAVING A GREAT COCKTAIL.*

(*OKAY, FINE, SEVERAL GREAT COCKTAILS!)

But as much as Free Spirits loved a full glass of a wonderfully mixed, complex cocktail, they eventually realized that it wasn’t always the alcohol we were after. Which led us to ask an almost heretical question.  “What if alcohol wasn’t the ‘star player’ of every great cocktail?'” And, what’s more, ‘what if we could control the amount of alcohol in our favorite cocktails without sacrificing the taste or the integrity of the cocktail?’

AND THAT’S WHY THEY FOUNDED THE FREE SPIRITS COMPANY.

Located in Marin County, California, The Free Spirits Company crafts non-alcoholic spirit alternatives including Bourbon, Gin and Tequila. Through a process called Distillate Reconstruction, they source natural, real ingredients like American White Oak, European Juniper, and Mexican Blue Agave, then distill their essence and reconstruct the unique nose, flavor notes, and mouthfeel of the world’s great liquors. Where the alcohol would have been, Free Spirits infuses vitamins B3 and B6 along with naturally uplifting amino acids like taurine for that little something extra. With Free Spirits, drinkers have complete control to  ‘dial-up’ or ‘dial-down’ their favorite cocktail from replacing 1:1 to ‘half and a half or beyond, without sacrificing taste. Free Spirits are made for those who refuse to compromise between a great cocktail and a great time. And who has come to appreciate waking up sans hang-over the following morning?

Meet Shelley & Jeff, Founders of For Bitter For Worse

For Bitter For Worse is inspired by their long, sparky marriage and love for celebration. When they made the choice to drink less alcohol, found themselves frustrated by the lack of sophisticated options. They’re innovators and flavor-chasers who set out to make the kinds of drinks they enjoy—cocktails they’re proud to serve friends. Whether you’re the designated driver, sober for life, or just pacing yourself at a party—they’ve got you covered! Because a well-stocked bar includes alcohol-free cocktails.

sovi

Sovi got its start in California when a wine lover and a risk-taking sommelier decided to step away from their day jobs in the wine industry in Napa to pursue their latest dream of making high-quality, non-alcoholic wine. Their mission: to create a wine they would drink and so would our friends – a wine that was inspired by people with a heart for wine and a craving for inclusion.

At the end of the day, they had one goal in mind: to offer consumers a refreshing, non-alcoholic wine without compromising flavor or experience. In doing so, they hope to lead the industry in offering quality, non-alcoholic options for consumers that look and taste up to the level of their alcoholic peers. Novel idea? Maybe not. An idea that’s long overdue? They think so! Dare they say, it’s a game-changer.
