Daniel G Garza’s Sober Story

I got sober after a judge gave me the choice of either jail for a year or rehab for three months. After 21 years of drinking and 16 years of drugs, on June 21st, 2007, I arrived at Bay Area Recovery Center in Dickinson, Texas.  I was there for three months and stayed 2 extra days; I did not want to leave. It was the best summer of my life, summer camp, I became a man.

I have lived a life of Recovery for just over 15 years. I celebrated my 15th AA birthday by throwing myself a Quinceañera. My sobriety has pushed my career. Allowed me to find an alignment with body, mind, and spirit. It has made me a better person. There have been tough times along the way, but I would not change a thing.

SPEAK OUT! SPEAK LOUD! Do you have something to say?

In the words of Madonna…”Express yourself!”

This is the space to share collective stories and opinions of our sobriety journeys. After removing drugs and alcohol, many addicts find their voices and discover new talents, abilities, and forms of self-expression. Sharing these stories and experiences helps those who share their story and those still battling addiction. So, let’s Speak Out! And Speak Loud! Because when we recover out loud, we help keep others from dying in silence.

How are you expressing yourself in recovery? Do you have something you’d like to share in this space? Videos, poems, art, essays, opinion pieces, music – bring it.  We want to hear from you! Please email us at thesobercurator@gmail.com or DM us on social!
