The Daily Llama Brings You The Word Of The Day With Short Meditations For Your Complete Wool-Being For The Week Of January 31st – February 4th, 2022

The Daily Llama, by Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, January 31st – Friday, February 4th, 2022.

MONDAY, JANUARY 31ST

WORD OF THE DAY: PIVOT

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Change occurs when excuses pivot to execution.” -Ryan Lilly

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Lasting change does not happen overnight. Trying to do too much too fast usually contributes to the inability to sustain change. According to most theories about the stages of change, we go through three whole stages (pre-contemplation, contemplation, and preparation) before we can even enact change. Our ability to create impactful behavioral change in our lives rests upon the quality of our thinking and our preparation.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Backward Day, National Hot Chocolate Day, National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, and National Bubble Wrap Day.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST

WORD OF THE DAY: QUINTESSENTIAL

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.” – Mark Twain

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Anger is a powerful emotion, and it is one of the harder ones to manage wisely. When our brains sense a threat or a violation of a boundary, a tidal wave of chemicals surges through our brains and bodies, giving us a tremendous amount of fuel to take the necessary action to protect ourselves. If we unleash our anger prematurely or inappropriately, we cause harm to others. If we never release it, we harm ourselves. In ancient philosophy, the fifth element (‘quintessence’) was considered ether, which was believed to be the substance of which the heavenly bodies were made.

So, something that is quintessential is the “perfect embodiment of a thing or substance.” Today we seek to find the best way to cope with our anger, to find the best way to embody this powerful feeling. We will try not to lash out in anger, thereby harming our relationships with others. But also, we will try not to repress it, thereby becoming emotionally dishonest and harming the relationship we have with ourselves.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Freedom Day (Freedom from Slavery Day), National Dark Chocolate Day, National Baked Alaska Day, National Get Up Day, National Serpent Day, and National Texas Day.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND

WORD OF THE DAY: REKINDLE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.” – Albert Schweitzer

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Winter is cold and dark, but never more so than when our inner fire has burned out. Today we create space within our inner world for our hearts to be rekindled with hope. Today we remember that winter never lasts forever.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is Groundhog’s Day. It’s also National Girls and Women in Sports Day, National Heavenly Hash Day, and National Tater Tot Day.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH

WORD OF THE DAY: SCOPE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Use your imagination, and you’ll see that even the most narrow, humdrum lives are infinite in scope if you examine them with enough care.” – Mark Haddon

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Our ability to solve problems creatively relies on our willingness to expand our perspective. If we remain rigid in our thinking and closed in response to new ideas or new information, we cannot grow.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Women Physicians Day, National Missing Persons Day, National Day the Music Died Day, National Carrot Cake Day, and Optimist Day.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH

WORD OF THE DAY: TENDERHEARTED

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“There never was any heart truly great and generous, that was not also tender and compassionate.” – Robert Frost

MEDITATE ON THIS:

For centuries, the heart has been used to symbolize human love. The heart’s primary job is to receive blood and to return blood where it needs to go. It does not create the blood that it pumps through the body, nor does it hoard large amounts of blood out of fear that it will one day not have enough. It simply remains open to receiving and to giving, trusting that it will receive what it needs and faithful in giving where there is need.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Wear Red Day. It’s also National Homemade Soup Day, National Create a Vacuum Day, National Hemp Day, National Thank a Mail Carrier Day, and Bubble Gum Day.
