Sober in Kirkland? Sparrow Will Be Your New Favorite Spot

Sparrow, an American Contemporary restaurant, was born on July 5th, 2022, in the Juanita neighborhood of Kirkland, Washington. And in case you missed it, we’ve already named the greater Seattle area one of the top cities to live a sober lifestyle. Best Cities to Live a Sober Lifestyle (thesobercurator.com)

Sparrow’s name was influenced by wanting to be a different kind of Kirkland neighborhood restaurant. In ancient Greek mythology, sparrows were considered a symbol of love, and the sparrow was the sacred bird of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, symbolizing true love and spiritual connection. The Pacific Northwest is full of these beautiful creatures. At this restaurant, they put their love into their food and service and inclusivity into their drink menus,

A Pleasant Surprise

I recently stopped into Sparrow for Sunday brunch to catch up with a friend after church, and I was ecstatic when I asked our server if they offered any “adult” non-alcoholic beverages on their menu. “You know, not a diet coke or a Shirley Temple,” I started to add, thinking she would look at me like I was insane (a typical response I’ve received for the last 16 years of dining out in sobriety). I had mistakenly skipped to the Coffee, Tea, & Non-Alcoholic section of their online menu only to discover the usual juice and soda suspects.

A Path in the Wild (Non-Alcoholic)

“YASSS!” our server quickly exclaimed, as she started to list off brands that I have come to recognize over the last few years, as the non-alcoholic beverage sector has been exploding. Sober Curator Pro Tip: You can find their most current non-alcoholic cocktail options under the Cocktail section of their online menu. They also currently offer two NA Beer options. So inclusive Sparrow! Thank you! You made this sober girl feel included in her Sunday Funday brunch!

While I don’t see any non-alcoholic wine options currently on the menu, my guess is this is the type of establishment that will consider adding this option to their menu of enough patrons ask about it. (Hey Sparrow, if you’re reading this, I vote adding Jøyus Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé if it were up to me and it’s a local brand!)

On the Brunch Menu

In case you’re curious what was paired with my tasty Path in the Wild Non-Alcoholic Cocktail, I ordered the Crab Avocado Toast and a side of bacon. My friend Erin ordered the Banana pancakes and shared a bite. We were both very satisfied with our food choices and the atmosphere, decor, and music at Sparrow is also on point. I’ll be back to check out the Fried Chicken and Waffles soon!
