Join Shatterproof Dallas: Walking to Help Smash the Stigma November 11th at Reverchon Park

Shatterproof is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization focused on transforming addiction treatment, ending addiction stigma and educating and empowering communities. Sadly, Shatterproof Founder, Gary Mendell knows all to well that addiction and the stigma surrounding it can and does kill. Shatterproof was started after Mendell’s son took his life in sobriety out of desperation due to the hopelessness of the incessant stigma addicts and recovered addicts face from those who do not understand the disease. And unfortunately, Mendell is not alone. We’re losing people to addiction at an alarming rate. The National Center for Drug Abuse statistics estimate Drug overdose deaths are up 30% year-over-year. 96,779 drug overdose deaths were reported from March 2020 to March 2021. This must stop! The Shatterproof Dallas Walk is a great step in learning what you can do to help end the stigma surrounding addiction so more people get help.

Shatterproof offers hope

Addiction is cunning, baffeling and powerful but there is hope in recovery and fellowship, Shatterproof walks provide a chance to mobilize, take action, raise funds, connect with others in the fight, and stand in solidarity with those in recovery, those still suffering and those who have lost loved ones to the evil disease of addiction.

PAY IT FORWARD: At The Sober Curator, we believe in the power of giving. Whether it’s through volunteering your time, using your unique talents, or donating money, giving back to the community has numerous benefits. Not only does it make us better humans, but studies have shown that those who give are happier, have longer lifespans, and feel more connected to the world around them.

As Pablo Picasso famously said, the meaning of life is to find your gift, but the purpose of life is to give it away. That’s where Pay it Forward comes in. Our comprehensive resource directory is a curated list of reputable, recovery-related organizations that are seeking donations and volunteers to help enhance our communities.

At The Sober Curator, we are always on the lookout for new opportunities to give back. If you have a favorite nonprofit organization related to recovery and mental health that you think we should feature, please don’t hesitate to contact us at thesobercurator@gmail.com.

Let’s work together to make a difference and spread kindness and generosity wherever we can.
