Africovery | Luxury Safaris for the Sober Traveler

Are you ready for a Sober Safari? Think of all that money you’ve been saving because you haven’t been spending it on booze and drugs! Why not treat yourself to a luxury safari with like-minded sober friends in Africa!

The Mission of Africovery

The mission of Africovery is to provide boutique Safari experiences for sober people (regardless of why they are sober), creating rare opportunities for rejuvenation and transformation through immersion of Africa’s awe-inspiring nature.

Why Africa?

For those lucky enough to experience the raw beauty of Africa, they will have felt its incredibly calming effect on mind, body, and soul. This is an opportunity for people in sobriety to tap into the natural healing powers of the area. Being far from home, the bustle of the city, and career demands allows for true reconnection with self and the spiritual powers that one may connect with. (seeScience-backed reasons how Safari can boost your mental well-being (and recovery”)

Unlike resorts or hotels, luxury Safaris that are in private nature reserves have the unique ability to tailor their experiences to their guests, which allows them to ensure a highly exclusive, personalized experience. Going on safari for people who are sober can be a challenge due to the drinking culture that permeates the experience (which you share with other guests).

In the words of the Founder

“When I looked at the options of sober travel experiences on the market, I found they were very much limited to adventure-style trips filled to the brim with activities and frequently changing locations throughout the trip. This can end up being more draining than relaxing by the end of it”, says Bency Goldman who founded Africovery. “I wanted to create something a little different – A more luxurious travel experience deep within nature, that is both relaxing and rejuvenating”.

Bency, who is sober by choice however also in recovery, has always had a deep love for the bush (Safari) having grown up in South Africa, and spending his winter holidays in the Kruger Park. “It is honestly the most peaceful place in the world, and I have personally seen how spending time in the bush can change people – it’s a profoundly spiritual place.”

Designed for Travelers in Sobriety

Africovery safaris and retreats are designed for this niche, for the individual with discerning tastes and with an appreciation for not just nature, but a desire to be fully present in the experience. For this reason, they have partnered with several five-star luxury lodges that provide gourmet food and world-class service. Due to their exclusive agreements, you also will get to experience the African Savanna like never before – like doing yoga and meditation in unique locations deep within the reserve, with nothing but the sounds of wildlife all around you.

Africovery designs custom itineraries for sober couples, families, and sober friend groups with activity options ranging from adventure sports like river-rafting, to unique conservation and volunteering opportunities in local communities. “When it comes to the Safari experience – personalization and attention to detail is what trumps all other kinds of travel. Every part of a group’s trip is designed exclusively to their tastes, from what they want for breakfast to the types of premium AF drinks they are served on the game drives.”

Who does Africovery cater to?

Founders Message:

I’m incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to share my love for Africa, and my passion for recovery, with such diverse people from all over the world. Africa is my home, and amidst her nature is where I and many others have experienced the true powers of transformation. The African Savanna is one of the few places on Earth where you can truly feel the raw, spiritual heartbeat of the universe, and where in turn, you come to feel your own. I want to share this life-changing experience with as many other people in recovery/sobriety as possible.

Sober travel is difficult, and many of the options consist of backpacking-style adventures with jam-packed schedules. I wanted to create something a little different. A luxury travel experience that is both relaxing and rejuvenating, where like-minded people can come together to elevate their consciousness for one week – and do so in the mecca of mother nature.

I can confidently say that this will be a week of your life you will never forget.

Bency Goldman
