SUMMARY:Recovery Kundalini Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Recovery Kundalini Yoga\n\n\nWe encourage participation in each Saturday of the 7-class series; drop-ins are also welcome. Sign up for one class at a time here.\n\nCLASS DESCRIPTION\nCome join us for some joyful dance jams and quiet meditation. Calm your nervous system. Come home to your Self. \nGuided by Karn Junkinsmith\, Recovery Kundalini weaves the cognitive tools of the 12-step programs with the somatic and sound basics of Kundalini yoga\, moving us into freedom and serenity. \n\nRecovery Kundalini yoga supports returning to wellness from all manner of unhealthy behaviors. There is no aspect of the human condition in which this practice cannot be applied.\nAddictive behaviors as defined by 12-step programs are three-fold\, affecting body\, mind and spirit: \n-A phenomenon of craving\n-A mental obsession\n-A spiritual sickness \nNOT simply a substance use ‘disorder.” \nKundalini yoga yokes all three sides of the recovery triangle with \n-Pranayama (breath/spirit)\n-Kriyas (movement/body)\n-Kirtan (chanting/mind)\n-Gong sound baths (rest/healing integration) \nAll are welcome. SUMMARY:National Alcohol Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:National Alcohol Awareness Day\nAlcohol Awareness Month is a public health program organized by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence as a way of increasing outreach and education regarding the dangers of alcoholism and issues related to alcohol. The program was started in April 1987 with the intention of targeting college-aged students who might be drinking too much as part of their newfound freedom. It has since become a national movement to draw more attention to the causes and effects of alcoholism as well as how to help families and communities deal with drinking problems.

SUMMARY:National Pet Day
DESCRIPTION:National Pet Day\nNational Pet Day is April 11\, although if you’re a pet owner\, you know there’s not a day that goes by that you don’t celebrate your animal companion! So hug your hedgehog\, bond with your bunny\, and cut your kitty some catnip! That critter makes you happy — and that’s not all. Over the past 10 years\, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been a partner in research to determine the physical and mental benefits of having a pet. It turns out that not only can pets steal our hearts\, but they also contribute to overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol\, cholesterol\, and blood pressure levels.

SUMMARY:World Semicolon Day
DESCRIPTION:World Semicolon Day\nApril 16 is World Semicolon Day\, which recognizes suicide survivors and aims to raise awareness and offer support for all those who are experiencing mental health challenges. The semicolon is a representation of choosing not to die by suicide\, since it indicates a separation of two clauses rather than the end of a clause. In this way\, though there are different beliefs about the symbol on an individual basis\, the semicolon has come to represent perseverance and hope in the face of challenging mental illness symptoms.

SUMMARY:Works & Process: Terrence McNally Recovery Commissions: Craig Lucas and Jake Brasch
DESCRIPTION:Works & Process: Terrence McNally Recovery Commissions: Craig Lucas and Jake Brasch\nThe Terrence McNally Recovery Commissions award two annual $10\,000 new play commissions—one to an emerging playwright and one to an established playwright—each identifying as being in recovery from a substance use condition. Reflecting the spirit of sponsorship\, the commissioned artists serve as resources for one another throughout a yearlong process that includes a writing retreat with Provincetown Theater and Recovery Arts Project; a Works & Process residency at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford\, Connecticut; made possible by The Ziegfeld Club’s 2026 Needlepoint Bob Grant; all culminating in a Works & Process showing\, where audiences are invited to experience selected scenes from both new plays by Jake Brasch and Craig Lucas and a moderated discussion with the playwrights exploring their artistic processes\, recovery journeys\, and the role of storytelling in healing. \nThe commissions are named in honor of Terrence McNally\, whose own journey in recovery began with a life-changing moment at Stephen Sondheim’s birthday party\, where Angela Lansbury\, with love and concern\, encouraged him to face his struggles with alcohol. McNally later shared this story in the documentary Every Act of Life\, believing in the power of being part of a supportive public community. \nThe inaugural recipients of the Terrence McNally Recovery Commissions are Jake Brasch\, who makes their Off-Broadway debut this season with The Reservoir at the Atlantic Theater Company\, and Craig Lucas\, Obie Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist.
