“Keep Coming Back”: A Film by Mark Rosman Highlighting the Power of Support in Addiction Recovery

Addiction recovery is a path often fraught with challenges and heartbreak. For every individual battling substance abuse, countless loved ones are struggling alongside them. Renowned filmmaker Mark Rosman’s latest project, “Keep Coming Back,” shines a poignant light on this dynamic. For film enthusiasts, followers of Mark Rosman, members of Al-Anon, the recovery community, parents of addicts, and The Sober Curator audience, this film offers a raw and authentic portrayal of the profound impact that support systems can have on addiction recovery.

What Is “Keep Coming Back” About?

The Plot

“Keep Coming Back” tells the story of Miles, a widowed and busy TV director, who sends his drug-abusing 17-year-old daughter to a rehab facility in the Utah mountains. Expecting this to be a quick fix, Miles soon learns he must attend a mandatory four-day parent workshop. Here, he discovers a hard truth — someone else needs to change for his daughter to recover, and that someone is him.

The Central Theme

The central theme of “Keep Coming Back” revolves around the idea that when those caring for loved ones struggling with addiction start looking at their behavior and making changes, it can open the door for recovery to begin. This film isn’t just about the person battling addiction; it focuses on the transformation that can occur when their support system makes crucial adjustments.

The Mission

The mission of “Keep Coming Back” is to help and change the lives of parents and other loved ones of people struggling with addiction. Through this heartfelt narrative, Mark Rosman aims to spread a message of hope and actionable change.

Personal Connection to the Story

In 2012, Mark Rosman and his wife discovered that their daughter was abusing drugs. The devastating revelation set them on a roller coaster journey through rehab, outpatient programs, and sober living facilities. They attended parent support groups and Al-Anon meetings, where they learned a critical yet challenging truth — their behavior needed to change for their daughter’s recovery to begin.

If we had learned this message earlier, it could have helped so much in our healing journey. Our daughter now has many years of sobriety and is thriving.

Mark Rosman

After over 30 years as a writer and director of feature films, TV movies, and series, Mark knew he wanted to make a film about addiction. His personal experience gave him a unique, worthwhile perspective that he poured into “Keep Coming Back.”

Why This Film Is Important

Skyrocketing Addiction Rates

Addiction rates in the United States, especially among adolescents, are skyrocketing. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, deadly overdoses among adolescents nearly doubled from 492 to 954 between 2019 and 2020 and jumped another 20% in 2021.

Given this urgent problem, parents, relatives, and friends of substance abusers often feel lost about how they can help their loved ones. They typically focus all their energy on the “identified patient” without realizing that addressing their behaviors—such as enabling, co-dependence, over-control, denial, and lack of boundaries—can significantly impact the substance user.

The Film’s Vision

“Keep Coming Back” aims to help families heal more quickly by making them aware that their behaviors play a pivotal role in recovery. By focusing on the person involved with the drug abuser, the film delivers a powerful message that change starts from within.

“Keep Coming Back” by Mark Rosman is more than just a film; it’s a beacon of hope and a guide for those navigating the tumultuous waters of addiction recovery. It reminds us that support systems need to undergo their own transformations to pave the way for the recovery of their loved ones.

This film offers a fresh perspective and actionable insights for those touched by addiction, whether directly or indirectly. We invite you to watch “Keep Coming Back” and join us in spreading its vital message.
