SUMMARY:Kwanzaa
DESCRIPTION:Kwanzaa\nKwanzaa\, annual holiday affirming African family and social values that is celebrated primarily in the United States from December 26 to January 1. Both the name and the celebration were devised in 1966 by Maulana Karenga\, a professor of Africana studies at California State University in Long Beach and an important figure in Afrocentrism. Karenga borrowed the word kwanza\, meaning “first\,” from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza\, adding the seventh letter\, an extra a\, to make the word long enough to accommodate one letter for each of the seven children present at an early celebration. (The name Kwanzaa is not itself a Swahili word.) The concept of Kwanzaa draws on Southern African first-fruits celebrations. \nAlthough Kwanzaa is primarily an African American holiday\, it has also come to be celebrated outside the United States\, particularly in Caribbean and other countries where there are large numbers of descendants of Africans. It was conceived as a nonpolitical and nonreligious holiday\, and it is not considered to be a substitute for Christmas. \nEach of the days of the celebration is dedicated to one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity (umoja)\, self-determination (kujichagulia)\, collective work and responsibility (ujima)\, cooperative economics (ujamaa)\, purpose (nia)\, creativity (kuumba)\, and faith (imani). There also are seven symbols of the holiday: fruits\, vegetables\, and nuts; a straw mat; a candleholder; ears of corn (maize); gifts; a communal cup\, signifying unity; and seven candles in the African colors of red\, green\, and black\, symbolizing the seven principles. On each day the family comes together to light one of the candles in the kinara\, or candleholder\, and to discuss the principle for the day. On December 31\, families join in a community feast called the karamu. Some participants wear traditional African clothing during the celebration. \nLove what you read? #sharesobriety\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit

From après-ski to group dinners and the expectation that drinking is part of the fun\, it can feel like you have to choose between protecting your sobriety and having a great holiday. \nSoberski exists to change that. \nWe bring together a small group of like-minded people for an unforgettable week in the mountains\, combining great skiing\, incredible scenery\, social experiences and a genuinely supportive community. There’s no pressure to drink\, no awkward explanations and no judgement – just people who want to ski\, explore\, laugh and have a brilliant time together. \nSobriety doesn’t mean missing out. In fact\, being sober can open the door to experiencing a ski trip in a completely different way. \nAt a time when alcohol-free living is becoming increasingly mainstream\, Soberski offers something practical and exciting: proof that you can have an incredible adventure\, meet brilliant people and create lasting memories without alcohol. \n \nAbout the Host: Ben Coombes (Sober Curator Fun Fact! He’s also a new contributor!)  \nBen Coombes is the founder and host of Soberski – a community built around bringing people together through unforgettable ski trips\, adventure and shared experiences. \nWith a background in luxury automotive training\, live events and content creation\, Ben brings a natural energy and confidence to hosting\, creating an atmosphere that is welcoming\, relaxed and fun from the moment a trip begins. \nSoberski is about more than simply getting on the mountain. It’s about great people\, great skiing and the stories you take home with you. Ben’s role is to bring that experience to life – from welcoming guests and leading the group to creating memorable moments both on and off the slopes. \nHis hosting style is authentic\, energetic and personable\, with a focus on making everyone feel included\, regardless of their skiing ability or experience. \n  \nLove what you read? #sharesobriety\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit

SUMMARY:Sober Camino de Santiago: An Alcohol-Free Pilgrimage Through Coastal Galicia
DESCRIPTION:Sober Camino de Santiago: An Alcohol-Free Pilgrimage Through Coastal Galicia\n\n\nRegistration Opens Wednesday\, April 14th 2027\n\n\n\n\nLace up your boots. This is life after the bottle\, one beautiful step at a time. \nJoin Recovery Elevator for a sober Camino de Santiago like no other — a 10-day pilgrimage along the historic Portuguese Coastal Camino\, from the medieval seaside town of Baiona all the way to the legendary Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. No bars. No “one drink won’t hurt.” Just you\, the Atlantic coastline\, a community of fellow alcohol-free travelers\, and a finish line you’ve been walking towards your entire life. \nThis is the inaugural journey in Recovery Elevator’s new Pilgrimage Series. \nThis isn’t your average walking tour\, and it’s not your average sober travel retreat either. It’s a pilgrimage in every sense — physical\, spiritual\, and deeply personal — built for people who’ve ditched the booze and are ready to discover what they’re actually capable of. \nWhy Walk the Camino Sober?\nAt Recovery Elevator\, we believe the opposite of addiction is connection. On this trip\, you’ll connect with: \n\nThe land — 120+ kilometers of Galician coastline\, medieval bridges\, eucalyptus forests\, and quiet country lanes\nThe culture — experience shellfish harvesting with local gatherers\, take a private boat trip to Cortegada Island\, and immerse yourself in pilgrim history.\nYour fellow AF travelers — a group of people who get it\, with zero pressure and zero judgment\nYourself — one solid\, sober step at a time\, all the way to Obradoiro Square\n\nThere’s no hangover at the end of this trail. Just the kind of clarity that comes from doing something hard\, on purpose\, completely present. \nGive back as you go: spend a day on a hands-on beach clean-up\, helping protect the same Galician coastline you’re walking along. \nSober Travel Requirements & Details \nLimited to 20 alcohol-free travelers. Participants must have at least 15 days of sobriety to join this transformative spiritual pilgrimage. \nReady to walk\, connect\, reflect\, and grow? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Recovery Elevator we believe the opposite of addiction is connection: we will be connecting with nature\, the stars\, the ocean\, the land\, food\, others who have ditched the booze\, and most importantly ourselves. These trips are special because we all have one common goal: living an authentic alcohol-free life. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nLove what you read? #sharesobriety\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit

SUMMARY:Christmas Markets\, Swiss Alps & Rhine Castles
DESCRIPTION:Christmas Markets\, Swiss Alps & Rhine Castles\nVisting the Christmas Markets in Europe is like dancing on the curled edges of a sugar cookie! Yes\, we tour the architectural and historical wonders and are immersed in ancient cultures that make Europe fascinating. But\, the Christmas Markets themselves are a magical world where you have freshly made hot chocolate topped with real whipped cream that is so extraordinary it makes you wonder if you really ever had this beverage before. The unique handmade arts and crafts\, the freshly made cakes and donuts and the weathered musicians who have been playing these same songs for hundreds of years surround you. The crisp air and scent of pine makes you feel so magically alive\, and you can only smile upon hearing the laughter of children waiting on line for a treat. Some markets are small and some large\, but all local artists and communities attend. Join us for this lovely adventure that we squeeze in for ourselves in between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
